The primary purpose of the supply chains is to ensure and secure the availability and smooth flow of the necessary resources for efficient production processes and consumption. Supply chain activities have been experiencing significant changes due to the importance and creation of the integrated process. Blockchain is viewed as an innovative tool for transforming supply chain management’s (SCM’s) actual business model; on the other hand, the SCM provides an applicative value of blockchain technology. The research is focused on examining the influence of blockchain technology on the increasing efficiency, transparency, auditability, traceability, and security issues of the food supply chain (FSC), with particular attention to the local food supply chain (LFSC). The main objective of the research is to suggest the implementation of blockchain technology in the local food supply chain as a niche of the food industry. The result of the research is the identification of a three-layers model of a smart local food supply chain. The model provides efficient and more transparent tracking across the local food supply chain, improving food accessibility, traceability, and safety.

Blockchain for Doping Control Applications in Sports: A Conceptual Approach

Doping is a well-known problem in competitive sports. Along the years, several cases have come to public, evidencing corrupt practices from within the sports environment. To guarantee fair play and prevent public health issues, anti-doping organizations and sports authorities are expected to cooperate in the fight against doping. To achieve this mission, doping-related data must be produced, stored, accessed, and shared in a secure, tamperproof, and privacy-preserving manner. This paper investigates the processes and tools established by the World Anti-Doping Agency for the global harmonization of doping control activities. From this investigation, it is possible to conclude that there is an inherent trust problem, in part due to a centralized data management paradigm and to the lack of fully digitalized processes. Therefore, this paper presents two main contributions: the concept of a multiorganizational decentralized data governance model and a blockchain-based design for one of the most sensitive data-sharing processes within the anti-doping ecosystem. Throughout this article, it is shown that the adoption of a permissioned blockchain can benefit the whole anti-doping community, creating more reliable processes for handling data, where privacy and security are enhanced.

SummaryEdge computing has the capability to process data closer to its point of origin, leading to the development of critical autonomous infrastructures with frequently communicating peers. The proposed work aims to evaluate the effectiveness of security and privacy mechanisms tailored for distributed systems, particularly focusing on scenarios where the nodes are closed‐circuit television (CCTV) systems. Ensuring public safety, object tracking in surveillance systems is a vital responsibility. The workflow has been specifically crafted and simulated for the purpose of weapon detection within public CCTV systems, utilizing sample edge devices. The system's primary objective is to detect any unauthorized use of weapons in public spaces while concurrently ensuring the integrity of video footage for use in criminal investigations. The outcomes of prior research on distributed machine learning (DML) techniques are compared with modified federated machine learning (FML) techniques, specifically designed for being Gossip verifiable and Quantum Safe. The conventional federated averaging algorithm is modified by incorporating the secret sharing principle, coupled with code‐based McEliece cryptosystem. This adaptation is designed to fortify the system against quantum threats. The Gossip data dissemination protocol, executed via custom blockchain atop the distributed network, serves to authenticate and validate the learning model propagated among the peers in the network. It provides additional layer of integrity to the system. Potential threats to the proposed model are analyzed and the efficiency of the work is assessed using formal proofs. The outcomes of the proposed work demonstrate that the trustworthiness and consistency are meticulously preserved for both the model and data within the DML framework on the Edge computing platform.
