Primary tooth pulpectomy overfilling by different placement techniques: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract: Background. This study was conducted to investigate root canal overfilling with different material placement techniques in primary teeth. Methods. A systematic search was undertaken by searching PubMed/MEDLINE and Scopus for English language peer-reviewed articles published until February 2018 that reported primary tooth pulpectomy overfilling. Two reviewers independently screened and identified studies in terms of the selection criteria and independently collected the data using a specially designed data extr… Show more

“…In our study, most hypoplastic defects were located in the labial/buccal surfaces, and in incisors, the defects decreased in frequency from cervical toward incisal; however, canines and first molars followed the opposite trend corresponding to the report by Asl Aminabadi et al (2009). This could be attributed to the intensity and timing of deciduous teeth development as only the incisal part of canines and the occlusal portion of the molars are complete when the cervical portion of incisors are almost completed (Lunt and Law 1974;Peter and George 1977).…”

“…The hypoplastic defects may vary in form of furrows, pits, or planes of enamel thickness deficiency (Schroth et al, 2021). Hypocalcifications are expressed as opaque white patches in the translucent enamel, in form of demarcated or diffuse opacities, caused by disruption at the maturation stage (Aminabadi et al, 2009; Castro et al, 2021). Discolorations are deposits of pigments as a result of disorders during the mineralization phase (Hillson, 2014).…”

“…Insults that occurred during this interval can permanently impair the primary enamel, providing a chronological indicator of the stressful events. Therefore, defects of primary teeth are often suggestive of diseases and dysfunctions suffered by the mother and the fetus during pregnancy (Aminabadi et al, 2009; Cook & Buikstra, 1979).…”
