Primary Cardiac Lymphoma Evaluated With Integration of PET/CT and Contrast-Enhanced CT

Abstract: A 43-year-old man had complete AV block and syncope. Echocardiography revealed a cardiac tumor attaching to the interatrial septum and protruding into the left atrial and right atrial cavities. F-18 FDG-PET/CT was performed and was interpreted with contrast-enhanced CT in similar planes side by side. It revealed remarkably increased glucose metabolism in the right atrium, interatrial septum, left atrium, and in a mass protruding from the posterior aspect of pericardium. Regions with central necrosis were found… Show more

“…The involvement is usually revealed by cardiac complications and is associated with a poor prognosis [21,22]. Few cases of cardiac involvement in NHL have been reported, both primary and metastatic, detected by 18 F-FDG PET-CT [9][10][11]. Julian et al reported two cases of NHL with cardiac involvement (apical septum, right ventricle and right auricle) detected by 18 F-FDG PET-CT that allowed an early diagnosis and chemotherapy, therefore, improving the survival [9].…”

“…The role of 18 F-FDG PET-CT in detection, staging and restaging of patients with extranodal involvement in NHL has also been reported in the literature [2,3]. Multiple isolated cases with extranodal involvement of NHL, detected on PET-CT, have been previously reported [8][9][10][11]. Here, we report a rare case of extranodal NHL involving multiple organs namely heart, bilateral kidneys, bowel, and left testis, in addition to mesenteric and retroperitoneal lymph nodes which were detected on 18 F-FDG PET-CT.…”

“…1 PET/CT in conjunction with contrast-enhanced CT are useful modalities for initial diagnosis and treatment follow-up. 3 In this instance, cardiac CT was invaluable for planning a safe biopsy approach.…”

“…Yin et al reported a case of a 55-year-old man with NHL of the left testis and of the bilateral adrenals detected by 18F-FDG PET-CT and demonstrated its role in the diagnosis and assessment of therapeutic response [5]. Multiple isolated cases with extranodal involvement of NHL, detected on PET-CT, have been previously reported [5][6][7][8]. In this case report, in addition to nodal involvement areas in a patient diagnosed as marginal zone lymphoma, rare areas of testicular and skin extranodal involvement detected by 18F-FDG PET-CT imaging is presented.…”
