“…At least four systems for evaluating the grade of malignancy are in use and in many publications, particularly American ones, the "benign papilloma" is not recognised as a benign tumour, while in other studies such GO tumours account for 18 to 30% of the total number (Abeshouse, 1956;Grabstald et al, 1971 ;Mazeman, 1976). “…Obstruction, trauma, chronic irritation including infection and/or urolithiasis, hormonal imbalance, and allergic reactions have been discussed [1,4,8], but a dispositional malformation with an abortive attempt of ureter- al duplication must also be taken into consideration [9]. This thesis is supported by the fact that some polyps appear frequently in the 2nd to 4th decade of life and can even be found in children and newborns.…”

“…Primary tumors of the ureter are rare with a frequency of 1:6,602 in autopsies and 1:1,375 in urological patients, benign lesions being about 1/3 to 1/4 [1][2][3]. Sometimes they cause difficulties in the differential diagnosis with regard to planning the operative procedure.…”

“…The etiology of ureteral carcinomas is still unknown, though sex, cigarette smoking, and carcinogen exposure are risk factors [18], Investigations in Taiwan, especially near the west coast (blackfoot disease endemic area) where the evidence for chronic arsenic intoxication was based on studies of persons exposed to arsenic in artesian well water, indicated that arsenic intake can cause devel opment of urothelial cancer [19]. In our case, drinking artesian well water since birth, we postulate that arsenic exposure via drinking water contributed to his ureteral tumor.…”
