“…This could suggest that perpetrators were less inclined to direct verbal aggressions towards nurses where there are sheer number of staffs present. This is in agreement with a study in Northwest Ethiopia which indicates that the odds of workplace violence among nurses with 1–5 number of staff during the same working shift were 2 times higher as compared to those nurses who had more than 11 number of staff during the same working shift [26]. The plausible explanation for this is that when the number of nurses is low in a given shift, patient care could be delayed resulting in irritation from patients or their accompanying persons.…”

“…This study showed that nearly two-thirds of participants experienced workplace violence in last 6 months. This is lower than the findings of studies conducted in Palestinian hospitals (80.4%) which had the recall period of 12 months, 15 Hong Kong (76%) with recall period of 12 months 8 and higher than the studies conducted in Northwest Ethiopia, 17 Southern Ethiopia (29.9%) 18 and Egypt (27.7%). 6 This difference could be a lack of violence preventing strategies such as policy/procedures, training, adequate safety measures in hospitals and due to under-reporting of the violent incident.…”

“…This study demonstrated that WPV in China is higher than in other countries. [33][34][35][36] Moreover, we found that WPV towards nurses was frequent, including verbal violence (64.9%), physical violence (11.8%) and sexual harassment (3.9%). This may be related to the fact that nurses are frequently in direct contact with patients and their relatives in their daily work.…”

The study has demonstrated that there is a high incidence rate of WPV and that occupational safety is insufficient.…”
