Menopause is a physiological change when the menstrual period ends due to the ovaries' termination of estrogen and progesterone production. Menopausal women experience several things in their transition phase such as clinical changes. These clinical changes can directly or indirectly affect the quality of life of an individual. Sociodemographic characteristics can also have a role in menopause symptoms. This literature review aimed to see from the previous study regarding the role of sociodemographic factors on menopause symptoms and whether menopause symptoms affect the quality of life. It was found that education, economic status, and occupation play a role in menopause symptoms. It can directly or indirectly affect how an individual perceives menopause and how to cope when symptoms arise.

Background and Objectives: In a woman who experienced menopause, there is a decrease in the strength of the muscle due to hormonal changes and because of several changes related to the hormones that occur in the body, it affects the body’s BMI which then affects to daily life. Physiotherapy is an effective way of reducing the majority of difficulties while doing daily activities and thereby improving overall health. The study aims to determine how the structured exercise protocol affects a muscle imbalance of hamstrings and quadriceps in postmenopausal obese women. Methodology: This research study was carried out on 50 females who experienced menopause and were between the age group 50-60 years the inclusion criteria were satisfied by them and they were divided into 2 groups randomly. Pre-interventional and post-interventional measurements were taken by Modified Sphygmomanometer, by 90-90 SLR test, Range of knee joints by goniometer also pain was assessed. Group A (the Control group) received the treatment which included hot moist therapy along with hamstrings active stretching, isometric exercises for both hamstrings and quadriceps and quadriceps strengthening and Group B received the treatment which included mulligans technique for hamstrings and for quadriceps muscle, MET technique was used. Both groups received the treatment for 6 weeks. Results: Statistically significant changes (with p-value <0.05) were seen in the pre and post-interventional measurements. But the value of the mean shows more progress in group B compared to group A. Research Conclusion: Both protocols are useful in the treatment of muscle imbalance in quadriceps and hamstrings in postmenopausal obese women but the Structured exercise protocol is more effective than the conventional protocol for muscle imbalance of quadriceps and hamstrings in postmenopausal obese women.

Background: The onset of menopause leads to diminished estrogen exposure, resulting in a high morbidity burden related to menopausal symptoms. Menopausal hormonal therapy is an effective therapy that offers more advantages than disadvantages for women aged less than 60 years or who have had menopause for less than 10 years. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of menopausal symptoms, identify factors associated with menopausal symptoms, and assess the use of menopausal hormone therapy among women aged 40-60 years who visited the gynecological clinics of three hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Methods: A facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted from January 2022 to June 2022 at Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Tikur Anbessa Hospital and Zewditu Memorial Hospital on atotal of 296 middle-aged women. Data were collected using an interviewer-administered structured questionnaire and analyzed for sociodemographic factors, utilization of menopausal hormone therapy, and prevalence of menopausal symptoms using the menopause rating scale. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 25. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify independent predictors of each subscale of menopausal symptoms. The strength of the association was measured using odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals, and statistical significance was set at value P<0.05. Result: The prevalence of menopausal symptoms was 89.9%. According to menopausal rating scale, the frequency of reported symptoms was hot flushes (54.7%), muscle and joint pain (32.1%) on somatic subscale; physical and mental exhaustion (55.1%), irritability (48.6%) on psychological subscale; and sexual problems (41.3%), bladder problems (39.2%) on urogenital subscale. This study also showed that the age of women and monthly family income were significantly associated with all three subscales of the menopausal rating scale. There was no utilization of menopausal hormonal therapy to treat menopausal symptoms and to prevent complications. Conclusion: The prevalence of menopausal symptoms is high; however, the utilization of individualized administration of menopausal hormone therapy according to symptoms is negligible. It appears essential for these institutions to work on service availability and delivery of menopausal hormone therapy for those in need of wider benefits of their clients.
