“…In this context, Zhang et al (2015) investigated the incidence of Salmonella in 730 samples aquaculture products from China, and found discordant results with this present study, since 217 (29.7%) of samples were positive for this bacteria. For these authors, aquaculture products, including shrimps, can become sources of Salmonella by exposure to contaminated water or through processing practices.…”

“…However in Shanghai, Salmonella Wandsworth was the second most common serotype in retail aquaculture products. Salmonella Wandsworth was isolated from many different aquaculture products, except shellfish, showing its wide distribution in nature in Shanghai (Zhang et al , 2015). Multidrug resistance of the Salmonella isolates, particularly to ciprofloxacin and ceftriaxone, two clinically important antibiotics commonly prescribed for salmonellosis treatment, is alarming.…”

“…Over half of these strains (58.75%) were isolated from human cases, whereas 24.37% were isolated from spiral shell. Our monitoring data, collected between 2006 and 2011 [7], demonstrated that S . Aberdeen could be enriched by spiral shells.…”
