Changes in the profile of sexually transmitted diseases have increased the need for their detection, particularly where there is a concentration of individuals with risk behavior, so that diagnosis and immediate treatment can be translated in the reduction of resulting problems. The objective was to identify the prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases in female sex workers in a medium-sized city in São Paulo state. This population prevalence study was conducted in 2008 on 102 females. The prevalence was 71.6%. When considered separately and in association, the highest values found were: HPV (67.7%) and Chlamydia (20.5%). HPV typing showed oncogenic genotypes. The prevalence of syphilis was 4.0% and of trichomoniasis 3.0%. No cases of hepatitis B or gonorrhea were identified. It was concluded that the prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases in the studied group was high, since approximately two thirds of the women showed some type of disease under this classification. Considerados aisladamente y en asociación, los mayores valores encontrados fueron: VPH (67,7%) e infección clamidiana (20,5%). El tipaje del VPH evidenció genotipos oncogénicos. La prevalencia de sífilis fue de 4,0% y de tricomoníasis 3,0%. Ningún caso de hepatitis B o gonorrea fue identificado. Se concluye que la prevalencia de enfermedad sexualmente transmisible fue elevada, ya que aproximadamente dos tercios de las mujeres presentaban alguna enfermedad de ese tipo.

Abstract:Introduction: Chlamydia trachomatis is a bacteria responsible of the most prevalent sexually transmitted disease worldwide, causing severe tubal damage responsible of ectopic pregnancy. This study was conducted to determine the incidence of chlamydia in women with ectopic pregnancy ruptured in a reference hospital of capital town of Madagascar. Patients and methods: This is a transversal and descriptive study of screening for Chlamydia trachomatis IgG cases among ectopic pregnancy seen at the University Hospital of Obstetrics Gynecology Befelatanana (CHUGOB) from 01 February to 30 May 2015. Results: During the study period, we recorded 41 cases with a overall rate of ectopic pregnancy of 2.04% when reported to the total number of deliveries. (n: 2347) The average age of patients was 30.50 years with predominance in primiparous (66%). More than half of the patients had at least one risk factor and 90% had a history of abortion induced and spontaneous miscarriage. The frequency of positive Chlamydia trachomatis IgG is 20.83% (n: 10) among which 7 presented pathological fallopian tube. Conclusion: The best way to avoid complications is precocious screening, but the cost of the screening tests remains an obstacle in developing countries like Madagascar.

Background:Little is known about sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among females who engage in illegal sexual behavior in Iran .So, this study was conducted to obtain knowledge about the prevalence and associated risk factors in this population.Materials and Methods:In a cross-sectional study, a total of 100 women who had exchange of sex for money in previous 3 months according to self report were recruited during 2009–2010 by simple non probable sampling method in Isfahan, Iran. HIV-Ab, Chlamydia trachomatis-IgG and syphilis infection were measured. A questionnaire on demographics and prostitution-associated risk data was collected as well. Chi-square and multivariate logistic regression models were used for data analysis.Results:Of 100 participants, the samples of 91 ones could be tested for STI markers (nine samples were hemolysis or insufficient). The overall prevalence of C. trachomatis was 19.8%. There was no case with syphilis or HIV infection. Multiple logistic regression analysis demonstrated that participants who reported temporarily marriage were less likely to be infected with C. trachomatis (AOR=0.003, 95%CI=0.001–0.58). The other risk factors for the tested STIs were not statistically significant in multiple logistic regressions.Conclusion:The results of our study indicated that seroprevalence and associated risk factors of HIV and other STIs among female with illegal social behaviors is not considerable in Isfahan, Iran.
