Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the size, shape and location of the mental foramen (MF) and anterior loop (AL) in the Brazilian population through the analysis of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and panoramic radiography (PR). Method: We analyzed the location, shape and size of the MF, the distance between the upper wall of the MF and the alveolar crest (AC), the size of the AL and the presence of lingual anastomosis. Results: Fifty PR and CBCT exams were analyzed. In relation to the MF, the most common location was between premolars (56%), the most common shape was the oval shape (83%) and the average size in the PR was 3.63 mm and in the CBCT was3.66 mm. The average distance from the MF to the AC in the PR was 17.29 mm and in the CBCT was 11.48 mm. The average AL size was 3 mm, the smallest being 1 mm and the largest being 5 mm. Static analysis was performed to verify the relationship between the distance from the foramen to the AC with the values that were found in the PR and CBCT, which showed a statistically significant difference (p=<0.001) between them. Lingual anastomosis could be seen in 22% of the analyzed hemimandibles. Conclusion: CBCT is a reliable diagnostic test for planning rehabilitation near the MF. The distance between the implant and the foramen must be analyzed individually.

Third-hand smoke (THS) is the residual tobacco smoke contaminant that remains after a cigarette is extinguished. It can react with the indoor air pollutant nitrous acid to produce a carcinogen. THS exposure may occur long after second-hand smoke appears (SHS). A cross sectional questionnaire study was conducted in which a close-ended selfadministered 20 item questionnaire was prepared. The data was collected from the smokers and non-smokers. Demographic characteristics, tobacco use status, attitudes toward awareness of third hand smoke and its adverse effects, was filled by the surveyed subjects. A total of 100 members with the mean age of 15-45 years participated in the study. The awareness of Third hand smoke is more among the non-smokers than compared with the smokers. The precautionary principle, which is a "strategy to cope with possible risks where scientific understanding is yet incomplete," is widely used in Europe and in radiation protection in the United States. Extended producer responsibility promotes total-lifecycle environmental improvements, placing economic, physical, and informational responsibilities onto the tobacco industry. Efforts to further reduce THS exposure may ultimately reduce tobaccorelated diseases and preserve the health of non-smoking adults and children.

Dry socket lesion is a post-extraction socket exhibiting exposed bone which is not covered by a blood clot or healing epithelium. This is one of the most common post extraction complication encountered in routine dental practise. This survey was done to check the knowledge and practise in management of dry sockets among undergraduate dental students. An online questionnaire was shared among 95 participants consisting of final year dental students and dental interns. There were 10 sets of close ended questions shared on survey planet. Based on the answers from the survey, the data was compiled and analyzed. Chi square test of statistical analysis was used with the aid of SPSS software version 20.0. The survey was taken up by 31.58% (n = 30) fourth year students and 68.42% (n = 65) intern students. More than 60 % students gave correct responses to questions related to etiology, clinical presentation and management of dry socket. There were a smaller number of students who gave correct answers to the pathogenesis of the condition (51%). Both final year and intern students displayed an overall good knowledge about dry socket and its management. However, intern students showed better understanding than fourth year students which was statistically significant with p < 0.05 to three out of ten questions. It can be concluded that dental students eventually gain better insight in the subject with increasing clinical years.

Abstract: A margin of 4 mm anterior to the mental foramen should be safe to avoid any damage to the mental nerve loop bundle in majority of the cases where the loop is present.
