O aumento do sobrepeso e da obesidade em pré-escolares, associado à falta de acompanhamento do crescimento e do estado nutricional destas crianças, tem chamado a atenção da ciência e de governos. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi verificar a tendência de crescimento de crianças frequentadoras de instituições infantis em um município do interior do Estado de São Paulo. Foram realizadas três avaliações antropométricas, durante dois anos de acompanhamento, em 75 crianças em idade pré-escolar. Os dados coletados foram: peso, estatura, índice de massa corporal, perímetro tricipital, dobra tricipital e subescapular. Os valores foram comparados com índices da Organização Mundial da Saúde. A maioria das crianças estava dentro do esperado em todas as medidas nas três avaliações. Não houve tendência ao excesso de peso, mas a associação significativa de p<0,001 entre sobrepeso e obesidade revelou uma alta incidência desses casos nas três avaliações superando a prevalência nacional e internacional para crianças dessa faixa etária. São necessárias ações de acompanhamento nutricional e incremento dos níveis de atividade física dessas crianças.

Background: Malnutrition, both stunting and overweight/obesity, present a public health concern in many countries in the world. Objective: This study aims to examine: (1) longitudinal changes in prevalence of overweight, stunting, and concurrent overweight and stunting among preschool children during 3 years and (2) secular changes in these prevalences of a specific age group of children aged 5.5–6.5 year over a period of 3 years. Methods: A cohort of 2,602 children initially aged 3–6 years old, 1,311 in an urban area and 1,291 in a rural area, was followed for 3 years. Of them, children aged 5.5–6.5 years old were identified to be included in three repeated cross-sectional surveys. The World Health Organization standard was used to classify children with overweight or stunting. Results: Findings from the cohort study indicate that between 2013 and 2016, the estimated prevalence of overweight including obesity (OWOB) increased with age, particularly in the urban setting (14.2%–29.9% in boys and 9.0%–21.6% in girls). The estimated prevalence of stunting decreased from 8.2% to 3.4% in boys and 9.5% to 3.5% in girls with a considerably greater decrease among rural children. There was a similar pattern of an age-related decrease of concurrent OWOB and stunting from 2.4% in 2013 to 1.4% in 2016 in boys and from 2.9% to 1.3% in girls with significant decreases in rural children. Secular trends in the group of children 5.5 to 6.5 show the same pattern as the longitudinal results: decreasing prevalence of stunting as well as concurrent OWOB and stunting. OWOB prevalence increased significantly in urban girls and rural boys. Conclusions: The pattern of increasing overweight, decreasing stunting and concurrent overweight and stunting both with increasing age and over chronological time is observed among Vietnamese preschool children.

Health is the necessary foundation for the comprehensive development of children. Unhealthy nutritional status of children in all its forms is a global problem. Our research goal was to assess prevailing nutritional status and changes in it among pre-school children in the north of Vietnam. There were several stages in the examination, each performed once a quarter, from September 2017 to March 2018. The results showed that children's height and weight grew. At the initial stage of the examination average age of children was equal to 42 months, average weight and height were 14 kg and 95 cm respectively. At stage 2, average height and weight were equal to 14.2 kg and 97 cm, and at stage 3 they were 15 kg and 99 cm, respectively. All the applied models revealed the correlation between anthropometric indices of children aged 10-60 months and their age (p < 0.05), however, only the model y = 0.2736x + 2.8943 with R 2 = 0.8571 revealed a tight correlation between body mass index and age. We applied the WHO standards (2006) to assess the nutritional status of children. After 6 months of the examination we detected an increase in number of children with good nutritional status and a decrease in number of those with bad one that was the most tightly connected with malnutrition. At stage 3 we revealed 15.7 % children with stunting, 4.3 % children with underweight, and 3.3 % with both disorders, among those who received insufficient nutrition. 1.5 % children suffered from hypotrophy; and 0.1 % children had underweight, stunting, and hypotrophy. Prevalence of overweight and obesity didn't decrease as at stage 1 overweight was detected in 4.5 % cases, and obesity, in 1.2 % cases; and at stage 3, they were detected in 5.5 % and 1.1 % cases respectively. Apart from that, in some cases malnutrition and disorders related to overweight occurred simultaneously: stunting and overweight in 0.6 % cases, stunting and obesity, in 0.1 % cases.
