Prevalence and distribution of structural heart diseases in high and low risk pregnancies

Show more

“…This is in discordance with the literature that already reported a greater indication of fetal heart screening for increased nuchal translucency [6], intrauterine fetal death in previous pregnancy [3], finding abnormal prenatal sonographic [22, 23], and family history of a child with CHD [24]. …”

“…However, I think it would be meaningful to interpret the remaining data itself. The incidence of isolated VSD was found to be 1.25%, which is much lower than previous studies . Based on the study characteristics, the main cause of low incidence could be due to a non‐high risk population.…”

“…The incidence of isolated VSD was found to be 1.25%, which is much lower than previous studies. 2,3,[5][6][7][8] Based on the study characteristics, the main cause of low incidence could be due to a non-high risk population. The incidence of spontaneous VSD closure varies greatly, depending on the age, the size of the defect, the types of defect and length of follow-up period.…”

“…Some countries have high incidence of CHD because they have instituted an organized policy to perform heart screening by ultrasound systematically. [1][2][3][4] Prenatal diagnosis of heart defects can lead to changes in medical management that may improve clinical outcomes. For example, decisions to deliver at tertiary care centers with ready access to paediatric medical and surgical specialties are associated with decreased neonatal morbidity and mortality.…”
