“…The wide spread of ESBL-producing K. pneumoniae strains has been attributed to the overuse or misuse of antibiotics. ESBLs can hydrolyze different types of beta-lactam antibiotics, including cephalosporins and monobactams, and consequently, the treatment of infections caused by ESBL-producing strains has become a concerning issue [4,5].
