Preseptal Upper Eyelid Lipoma

Abstract: Superficial subcutaneous lipomas are benign, slow-growing neoplasms comprised mature adipose cells that may be surrounded by a fibrous tissue capsule. While found commonly on the body, simple lipomas are rarely described in the eyelids. Reports of two eyelid lipomas in the literature describe the anatomy to be posterior to the orbital septum. The presenting authors report the case of a simple lipoma of the eyelid found fully in the preseptal plane. Lipomas can occur anterior to the orbital septum and should be… Show more

“…Among the few cases described in literature we can identify different subtypes of lipoma, such as an osteolipoma, 12 a myolipoma, 2 , 6 a spindle-cell lipoma 3 and a capsulated lipoma. 1 , 4 , 5 We have described a case of non-capsulated and non-muscle-infiltrating lipoma.…”

“…Despite being the most frequent soft tissue tumours with an incidence of up to 2.1 per 100 individuals, few cases of lipomas involving the eyelid have been described in litterature. 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 Different subtypes of lipomatous lesions exist and can be classified with a microscopic examination. 7 They can be histologically identified on the basis of the different tissues types other than the adipose component.…”

“…The majority of eyelid tumors are benign and epidermal in origin, whereas adnexal and stromal tumors are less frequent [11]. A few cases of eyelid lipomas have been reported in the literature; however, simple lipomas of the eyelid affecting only the preseptal area are extremely rare [9]. From this In previously documented cases of upper eyelid lipoma, the main clinical characteristics were progressive drooping of the upper eyelids, upper eyelid edema, and a palpable that became larger while exhibiting no signs of inflammation, such as pain, redness, or skin abnormalities [5,9].…”

From this In previously documented cases of upper eyelid lipoma, the main clinical characteristics were progressive drooping of the upper eyelids, upper eyelid edema, and a palpable that became larger while exhibiting no signs of inflammation, such as pain, redness, or skin abnormalities [5,9]. In our case, there was a palpable lump along with the typical clinical symptoms of dermatochalasis.…”
