“…The most important step in the design of an HSCCC separation system is the selection of the solvent system. Generally, two-phase solvent systems need to satisfy the following requirements: (1) the settling time of the solvent system should ideally be shorter than 30 s to ensure satisfactory retention of the stationary phase; (2) the partition coefficient (K) of the target compounds should be 0.5 ≤ K ≤ 2.0 for efficient separation; (3) the separation factor between the two components (α = K2/K1, K2 > K1) should be greater than 1.5 (Lee et al, 2011); and (4) the sample should not decompose or be denatured. In the current study, the K values of the four stilbenes were determined via HPLC, as described in the experimental section (Table 1).…”

“…To date, successful applications of RP-FC and HSCCC have been reported for the purification of a number of active components in natural products (Blunt et al, 1987;Raman et al, 2005;Lee et al, 2011;Mudge et al, 2013). Most of the previous studies reported the separation process using either method, however, to the best of our knowledge, little attention has been paid to the comparison of the two techniques.…”

“…HSCCC has great advantages of 100% sample recovery, simplicity to scale up and high yield of sample. Therefore, this technique has been extensively applied for separation and purification of natural products (Ito et al, 2011;Lee et al, 2011;Shi et al, 2011;Hu et al, 2008), especially for flavonoids (Liu et al, 2005;Yang et al, 2009;Wu et al, 2009;Wei et al, 2011).…”
