“…Indeed, both simulations and experiments recently demonstrate the weak hydrophobicity of BN layers due to the polarity of the B-N bond, 44,45 while modification of the surface roughness of BN thin films lead to the drastic increase of the CA from 67° to 159°. 46 Vertically grown BN nanotubes on silicon substrate also display super-hydrophobic bahavior. 44,47 Stability of the material properties over time, storage and use conditions is a key parameter for usability and lifetime of the material.…”

“…The water contact angle (WCA) measured on h‐BN film is only around 50°, which is significantly lower than the 86° predicted theoretically . The origination of this large variation is not clear, but the large amounts of defects in the h‐BN film fabricated by pulsed‐laser deposition and magnetron sputtering may be an important factor . Although polar BN bonds result in a sizable local in‐plane dipole moment, there is no notable dipoles normal to the ideal h‐BN plane, in sharp contrast to the surface of cubic BN surface .…”

“…The measured CA is in agreement even slightly higher than typically reported values ranging from 50 to 67°. [44][45][46] Full spreading with CA ~ 0° is noted with organic solvent such as hexane and dichloromethane (Figure 5c) thus showing the lipophilic character of the film.…”
