Preparation of (Tb0.8Y0.2)3Al5O12 transparent ceramic as novel magneto-optical isolator material

Abstract: The ion substitution characteristics of Y 3+ -doped (Tb0.8Y0.2)3Al5O12 transparent ceramics synthesized by a solid-state reaction and vacuum sintering are investigated. The sample sintered at 1 680• C exhibits the best optical properties, yielding a transmittance >75% from 900 to 1 600 nm. The Verdet constant of this sample at 632.8 nm is -108.79 rad·T −1 ·m −1 . X-ray diffraction (XRD) results show that all of the samples have a pure garnet crystal structure without secondary phases. The microstructure of the… Show more

“…[176] As Y 3+ , Sc 3+ , and Ga 3+ can substitute Tb 3+ or Al 3+ sites in TAG and are beneficial to stabilize the crystal lattice, avoiding the incongruent melting of TAG, the substitutions are common in TAG based single crystals [54,67,180]. (Tb1-xYx)3Al5O12 [146,169,181], Tb3Sc2Al3O12 [182], (Tb1-x-yYxScy)3(Al1-zScz)5O12 [183,184],…”

“…Y 3 Al 5 O 12 (YAG) transparent laser ceramics have been widely studied [1][2][3][4] since Ikesue et al first achieved 1064 nm lasing on Nd:YAG ceramics in 1995 [5] . YAGbased ceramics have proven to be one of the most promising materials for applications for solid-state lasers.…”
