Preparation of polyamide 6/silica nanocomposites from silica surface initiated ring-opening anionic polymerization

Abstract: Abstract. Polyamide 6/silica nanocomposites were synthesized by in situ ring-opening anionic polymerization of ε-caprolactam in the presence of sodium caprolactamate as a catalyst and caprolactam-functionalized silica as an initiator. The initiator precursor, isocyanate-functionalized silica, was prepared by directly reacting commercial silica with excess toluene 2,4-diisocyanate. This polymerization was found to occur in a highly efficient manner at relatively low reaction temperature (170°C) and short reacti… Show more

“…TDI, as a bi‐functional organic compound, possesses two isocyanate groups with different activities at para and ortho positions. The para ‐isocyanate groups of TDI reacted with accessible hydroxyl groups on the surface of nano‐TiO 2 preferentially to form urethane bond and ortho ‐positions were preserved owing to the steric hindrance in the TDI molecule . The isocyanate groups that remained unreacted were then reduced and converted to amine groups with water.…”

“…The calix [4]arene variability of ion selectivity and ability to substitute with different molecules are due to their special structure including holes with definite size. Additionally, they are often used as host molecule to trap ions and molecules [14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21].…”

“…Researchers have come up with a new approach on casting which is based on the ring opening polymerization. The new casting process has two advantages under production: the process is faster and there is no water secession [1][2][3][4][5]. The sodium catalysed cast PA6 are being extensively used in the semi-finished material production such as bar, tubes, sheets.…”
