“…Many studies have been published utilizing this thermo-sensitive behavior of PNIPAAm in fields such as drug delivery systems 17,18 and thermo-sensitive membranes [19][20][21] . PNIPAAm has been extensively studied under the hydrogel state as a polymeric matrix for use in biotechnology and bioengineering 22 , and has been found to be cell compatible 23 .…”

“…The XPS analysis of the grafted pNIPAM was in good agreement with the literature data. pNIPAM was confirmed to be grafted onto various polymer supports either by c-irradiation of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) immersed in a NIPAM solution or by plasma polymerization of sublimated NIPAM on silicium wafers [15,16]. The lack of C1s and O1s characteristic peaks of ester group at 289.0 eV and 533.1 eV in poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide-graft-vinyl alcohol) (pNIPAM-g-PVA) spectrum indicated that no polymerization of L-LA occurred when L-LA was in presence of NIPAM.…”

“…This method has been shown to control the reaction and to obtain high densities of surface-grafted polymer. 25 Several surface 'grafting from' techniques have been reported in the literature, including chemical grafting, 25 plasma, 24,26 radiation 13,19,27,28 and photoinduced grafting. 29,30 A previously reported plasma-induced grafting technique 24 was chosen for the grafting of PNIPAM to the PCTEPMs because it presented several advantages to incorporating the desired properties into the PC membrane.…”
