“…1-OC, the predominant longchain aliphatic primary alcohol, was present about 45.17% of the total phytochemical content. This result was in agreement with a previous report that 1-OC was 47.8 ± 2.12% of sugarcane wax obtained by hot ethanol reflux extraction from filter mud after saponification (Ou et al, 2012). As observed from mass spectra in Fig.…”

“…1-Octacosanol (1-OC) is a major component of policosanol, the primary aliphatic 24-to 34-carbon alcohols derived from the wax constituent of plants and seeds (Irmak & Dunford, 2005;Ou, Zhao, Wang, Tian, & Wang, 2012). 1-OC was often acted as a test substance and has been a focus of much research in recent years due to its potential beneficial effects, such as lowering cholesterol, antiaggregatory properties, cytoprotective use and ergogenic properties for human health (Taylor, Rapport, & Lockwood, 2003).…”

“…A stirred mixture of tert-butyl dimethyl octacos10-enyloxy silane 9 (0.520 g, 0.99 mmol) and 10% Pd/C (10 wt% of substrate) in methanol (10 mL) was hydrogenated under hydrogen atmosphere at RT for 12 h. The reaction mixture was filtered using celite cake and filtrate was concentrated and dried under vacuum to get pure 1-octacosanol 10 as a white solid (0.390 g, 95%) with melting point 78-79°C. The spectral data matched well with those reported in the literature [16] and is reported below: IR (cm À1 , KBr): 3333, 2918, 2849, 1464, 1063, 729; 1 H NMR (200 MHz, CDCl 3 ): d 0.90 (t, J ¼ 6.8 Hz, 3H, CH 3 -CH 2 ), 1.29 (s, 50H, CH 2 -(CH 2 ) 25 -CH 2 ), 1.56-1.51 (m, 2H, CH 2 -(CH 2 ) 25 ), 2.14 (S, 1H, CH 2 -OH), 3.6 (t, J ¼ 6.7 Hz, 2H, (CH 2 ) 25 -CH 2 O); 13…”

“…Octacosanol is isolated from sugar cane wax consisting of a mixture of 1-octacosanol (60-70%), 1-triacontanol (10-15%), 1-tetracosanol (<2%), 1-hexacosanol (3-10%), 1-heptacosanol (<3%), 1-dotriacontanol (5-10%) and 1-tetratriacontanol (<5%). Sugar cane wax (6.85 g) was separated from sugar cane juice filter mud (100 g) and 22.52 g of octacosanol was extracted from 100 g of sugar cane wax [13]. Octacosanol is also isolated from rice bran wax, but its content was never reported to be more than 15-20% in the policosanol mixture [14].…”
