Preparation of novel polythioether dendrons on a solid supportElectronic supplementary information (ESI) available: procedures for the preparation of monomer 3, resins G1–G4, 4–8, and relevant characterisation data. See http://www.rsc.org/suppdata/cc/b3/b302324a/

Abstract: A synthetic scheme for the solid-phase synthesis of unprecedented polythioether dendrons has been established, the dendrons prepared up to the fourth generation, and the applicability of the dendronized resins for supported catalysis has been demonstrated.

“…16,17 Researchers have tried to synthesize the hyperbranched poly-(phenylene sulfide), 18,19 phenylene sulfide molecular asterisks 20,21 oligo(m-phenylene sulfide)s [22][23][24] and solid supported poly(thioether) dendron. 25 In present work we report the synthesis of novel poly(phenylene sulfide) dendrimers and carboxy focal poly(phenylene sulfide) dendrons by nucleophilic synthesis method and film formation of dendrimers and dendrons on mica surface.…”

“…Portnoy and coworkers [85] have reported the solidphase synthesis of novel polythioether dendrimers that potentially form SCS type pincer coordination sites. First to fourth generation dendrimers were assembled via a three step iterative procedure to construct the individual dendritic shells, as shown in Scheme 18.…”

Increasing the length of the monomeric arms only marginally improved the situation.…”

“…47 The deprotection of the thiophenolate performed in situ was followed by three steps (similar to those previously described for polyether dendrons in Scheme 9) for each generation assembly (Scheme 11). 48 The polythioether dendrons were prepared to the fourth generation. Although the analogous amine-bearing isophthalate is commercially available, its nucleophilicity is too weak to enable dendron assembly through a route analogous to those in Schemes 9 and 11.…”
