Synthesis and Film Formation of Poly(phenylene sulfide) Dendrimers and Dendrons

Abstract: ABSTRACT:Poly(phenylene sulfide) dendrimers up to fourth generation were synthesized by divergent method from 1,3,5-tris(4-chloro-phenylene-1-thio)benzene. All the dendrimers are soluble in polar organic solvents at room temperature. The chemical structures at the synthesis steps were confirmed by spectroscopic method. X-Ray diffraction study revealed that all dendrimers are semi-crystalline in nature. Carboxy focal poly(phenylene sulfide) dendrons were synthesized up to second generation by divergent method f… Show more

“…Generation 1-3 (G1-G3) siloxy focal C6-PAMAM dendrons with amine terminals were synthesized from 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane by repeating two steps of Michael addition and amidation, as described elsewhere [32]. On a Michael addition reaction, methylacrylate in methanol was added dropwise into a methanol solution of 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane or full-generation dendron under nitrogen atmosphere.…”

“…Aza-C6-PAMAM dendrimers were synthesized as previously reported [17]. The generations of the dendrimers were 1.5 to 3 (G1.5-3, half generation is ester-terminated and full generation is amine-terminated).…”

“…From these viewpoints, the synthesis and characterization have been carried out for a series of functional PAMAMtype dendrimers (aza-C6-PAMAM dendrimers, see Fig. 1) that have an azacrown core and long alkyl chain (hexyl) spacers [17]. While the ester-terminated aza-C6-PAMAM dendrimers formed homogeneous Langmuir films with face- on configuration at the air-water interface, the dendrimers aggregated with silver nanoparticles by the aid of functional azacrown moiety on the aqueous suspension of silver nanoparticle as subphase [18].…”

“…Thiol dendron was fabricated into a uniform self-assembled monolayer at room temperature. However, multilayer aggregation or accumulation in the normal direction to the surface has never been reported, different from poly(phenylene sulfide) dendron [103]. This may result from the weaker π-π stacking interaction between benzyl groups in poly(benzylether) dendrons [104] because of longer distance between them.…”

“…This may result from the weaker π-π stacking interaction between benzyl groups in poly(benzylether) dendrons [104] because of longer distance between them. The aggregation can be formed by the face to-face interaction of dendrons within two dimensional plane and the repeating accumulation by the π-π stacking interaction between phenylene terminal groups and the hydrophilic interaction between focal points, forming large domains [103].…”
