Preparation of high water-absorbing hydrogel based on grafted micro/nano cellulose

Abstract: An absorbent hydrogel with high-permeable solution resistance was prepared by free radical polymerization and crosslinking, by the process of micro/nano cellulose grafting with acrylic acid (AA) and 2-acrylamide-2-methyl propyl sulfonic acid (AMPS). Imbibition swelling curves revealed that absorbency of the hydrogel reached 70.2, 483.9, and 436.7 g/g in 0.9 wt% sodium chloride solution, 3 wt% urea solution, and rainwater, respectively. Fourier transform infrared results confirmed that acrylic acid (AA) and 2-a… Show more

“…Hydrogels have attracted much attention in tissue engineering scaffolds owing to their various preparation principles and different biomedical applications . Some polymer hydrogels possess a high water-absorbing swelling rate and can be directly injected into the damaged area of the nucleus pulposus, restoring the predesigned size . This implantation only produces minor trauma, thus reducing surgical recovery time.…”

“…57 Some polymer hydrogels possess a high water-absorbing swelling rate and can be directly injected into the damaged area of the nucleus pulposus, restoring the predesigned size. 58 This implantation only produces minor trauma, thus reducing surgical recovery time. However, shortcomings of the nucleus pulposus scaffold also need to be considered.…”

“…To solve this fundamental problem, the efforts of scientists from the Institute of Macromolecular Compounds and the Agrophysical Research Institute carried out research work on the development and testing of new gel substrates based on copolymers of potassium 3-sulfopropyl methacrylate and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, characterized by high water absorption. To date, there are only a few studies in the literature devoted to the potential use of polymers with sulfonic acid groups for agricultural needs [27][28][29]. Thus, the synthesis and study of these hydrogels and gel substrates based on them seems completely new and relevant.…”
