Preparation and Study of Structural and Optical Properties of Chemical Bath Deposited Copper Indium Diselenide Thin Films

Abstract: Subject classification: 68.55.Jk; 68.55.Nq; 78.66.Li; S8.12 Copper indium diselenide thin films of different thicknesses were prepared by the chemical bath deposition technique onto well-cleaned glass substrates at room temperature. The thickness of the deposited films has been determined by gravimetry. The structural characterization was carried out by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopic studies. These studies confirm the polycrystalline nature of the films with chalcopyrite structure. The … Show more

“…The individual crystalline sizes (D c ) in the films have been estimated [15] and are in good agreement with the reported values [1,2,7]. Using the size of the crystallites the dislocation density, the number of crystallites per unit surface area and strain have been determined [15] and are presented in Table IV. The intensities of the peaks (110) is significantly higher in CBD In:CdS than in SILAR In:CdS.…”

“…Thin film formation by CBD is described as a process of ion-by-ion condensation at the surface of the substrate [15]. In CBD even though the deposition is by the reduction of metal salts, the reaction does not go autocatalytically unlike electroplating.…”

“…It should be mentioned here that during the synthesis of CdS nanocrystallites by MW irradiation method, carried out in our laboratory, the deposition of thin films of CdS nanocrystallites on suitable substrates could not be done. Therefore, we tried to prepare thin films of CdS nanocrystallites by using chemical bath deposition (CBD) method/technique [30][31][32]. The CBD method has some advantages such as simplicity, no requirement of major instruments, not so expensive, etc.…”
