Preparation and photocatalytic activity analysis of nanometer TiO2 modified by surfactant

Abstract: Combining the advantages of the sol-gel method and solvothermal method, the single anatase phase of nano-titanium dioxide (TiO 2) with high crystallinity had been prepared by means of the sol-solvent thermal improved process, in which butyl titanate was used as titanium source; anhydrous ethanol as solvent; concentrated nitric acid as inhibitor; and cationic surfactant cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS), and nonionic surfactant polyethylene glyco… Show more

“…The characteristic peak positions at 25.3 (101), 37.6 (004), 47.9 (200), 54.7 (105), 62.7 (204), and 75.1 (215) appeared in all samples, corresponding to the anatase-TiO 2 phase. 42,43,44 The expected characteristic peak of CdS was not found in all different conditions because of the high dispersion with the quantum size effect of CdS QDs. 40,45 Nevertheless, the main diffraction peaks of TiO 2 presented slight shifts to lower 2 θ positions for CdS-modified TiO 2 .…”

“…The presence of peak at 1,047 cm −1 was possibly due to the adsorbed water molecules. The characteristic absorption peak of CO 2− 3 appears at 1,385 cm −1 , which indicated that CO 2 adsorbed on the surface of TiO 2 reacted with H 2 O to form CO 2− 3 (Bezrodna et al, 2004;Wu et al, 2018). The band at 900-500 cm −1 was attributed to the vibrations of Ti−O−Ti bonds (Wen and Zhang, 2016;Feizpour et al, 2019;Jnido et al, 2019).…”

“…As a surfactant, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) has a perfect poreforming effect and could play the role of framework support. There have been many studies on the addition of CTAB to improve the performance of TiO 2 gel since it can effectively increase the specific surface area (Zhong et al, 2013;Wu et al, 2018;Dong et al, 2020). However, TiO 2 aerogel requires subsequent heat treatment to improve its crystallinity (Baia et al, 2006), which removes CTAB (Nadrah et al, 2017) and causes a severe collapse of the pore structure and limits the improvement of photocatalytic performance.…”

“…In order to generate sensitized or non-sensitized TiO 2 composites, especially with mesoporous structures, surfactant materials were used in the literature. They are Tween-20 [41], Tween-80 [42], polyethylene glycol [43,44], Brij-58 [45], Triton X-100, Pluronic F-127/P-123 [40][41][42][43][44][45][46], Acetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) [43][44][45][46][47], and Laurylamine hydrochloride [48,49].…”
