“…The size of BaF 2 nanocrystals is consistent with average crystal size estimated from Scherrer equation. To compare, the annealing conditions and sizes of BaF 2 :Eu 3+ nanocrystals in another glass-ceramics presented in literature were shown in Table 1 [25,26,27,28,29]. The similar crystal size was identified for sol-gel glass-ceramic materials (95SiO 2 -5BaF 2 ): 1% Eu 3+ (mol %) obtained during controlled heat-treatment at 800 °C per 1 h [25] as well as for conventional glasses with composition of 68SiO 2 -15BaF 2 -13K 2 CO 3 -2.75La 2 O 3 -1Sb 2 O 3 -0.25Eu 2 O 3 (mol %) during annealing at 600 °C per 24 h (6–10 nm) [26].…”

“…BaF 2 -REF 3 compounds have been extensively studied as nanocrystals in various oxyfluoride glass ceramics. Efficient UCL processes in glass ceramics containing fluorite type phases such as Ba 2 LaF 7 [24], BaYF 5 [25], BaYbF 5 [26] and Ba 1−x Lu x F 2+x [27]. Oxyfluoride glass ceramics are excellent candidates for applications in which transparency is required.…”

“…Additionally, the hydro(solvo)-thermal method is more suitable to prepare highly crystalline uorides nanomaterials under relatively mild condition. 28,[42][43][44] Compared with the traditional high temperature solid state reaction route, the hydrothermal synthesis of UC uorides has the advantage of controlled morphology and size, but it loses the high emission efficiency due to the high concentration defects and OH À . In the past decade, many approaches have been reported to increase the UC emission efficiency of lanthanide-doped nanoparticles, for example, using noble metal nanocrystal plasma, 45 photonic crystal effect, 46 surface coating through core-shell structure 47 and ion-exchange modi-ed hydrothermal method.…”
