Preparation and Evaluation of a Porous P(NIPAAm-MAA-EDMA) Monolithic Column for HPLC

Abstract: A novel porous monolithic column was prepared by in situ free-radical polymerization in a 50 mm 9 4.6 mm i.d. stainless steel column at 60°C, which was in the presence of 2,2 0 -azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as initiator, with N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) and methacrylic acid (MAA) as monomers, ethylene dimethacrylate (EDMA) as crosslinker, methanol and dodecanol as a porogenic solvent. The micrographs of monolithic column were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and pore size distribution wa… Show more

“…In a liquid chromatography system, increasing the flow rate can shorten the elution time of analytes, albeit with the potential downside of compromising the robustness of chromatographic analysis [ 54 , 55 ]. As the flow rate accelerates, the peak elution time shifts earlier and the peak shape becomes more compact, resulting in closer proximity between the peaks of the ethyl esters EPA and DHA and the surrounding impurity peaks ( Figure 10 ).…”

“…We used BIS as a crosslinker. 3 % of monomer weight of SDS was used as a surfactant agent [14]. Potassium per sulfate (KPS) was added in the column as the initiating agent (3.5 % weight of monomers).…”

“…Potassium per sulfate (KPS) was added in the column as the initiating agent (3.5 % weight of monomers). Thirty minutes (30 mins) following degassing with N2, the mixed solution temperature approaches 70 °C, then, the initiator was poured slowly into it [14][15][16]. The process of polymerization proceed for 4 h at this temperature, then, the polymer solution (latex) temperature was reduced by cooling.…”
