Preparation and Characterization of New Pb(Yb1/2Nb1/2)O3-Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 Ternary Piezo-/Ferroelectric Crystals

Abstract: Piezo-/ferroelectric crystals of a new Pb(Yb 1/2 Nb 1/2 )O 3 -Pb(Mg 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 -PbTiO 3 ternary solid solution system with the dimensions of 30 Â 30 Â 12 mm 3 have been grown by the top-seeded solution growth method for the first time. The crystal structure is analyzed by means of X-ray diffraction at various temperature. The composition of the grown crystals is found to be near the ternary morphotropic phase boundary. The Curie temperature T C reaches 205°C. The piezoelectric coefficient d 33 and the lon… Show more

“…With PSN content increasing from 5 to 45 mol%, the T C gradually increases from $ 154.9 1C to 191 1C to 235.6 1C, while the T R-T changes from $ 100 1C to 150 1C to 180 1C. The phase transition temperatures are higher than that of PMN-PT with MPB (T C $ 130 1C, T R-T $ 70 1C) [9], even higher than the ternary systems PIN-PMN-PT (T C $ 190 1C) [10,11]. The detailed dielectric and piezoelectric properties of PSN-PMN-PT ceramics with different PSN contents are shown in Table 1.…”

“….) formula due to their excellent piezoelectric and electromechanical properties in the compositions close to or within the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) compared with the conventional piezoelectric ceramics (1 À x)PbZrO 3 -xPbTiO 3 (PZT) [1][2][3][4][5][6]. Such ferroelectric materials are of great interests for their potential application in the electromechanical field, for example, the piezoelectric actuators, transducers, sensors and so on [2,3,[7][8][9][10].…”

“…Studies aiming to overcome the deficiencies of PMN-PT systems, such as through modification of the PMN-PT system by doping (e.g., Mn-doped PMN-PT) [9], development of new high-temperature solid solutions [10,11], and adding of high-temperature solutions to PMN-PT to achieve ternary systems [12][13][14], have been reported. Large-sized single crystals (1-x-y)Pb(In 1/2 Nb 1/2 )O 3 -xPb (Mg 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 -yPbTiO 3 [(1-x-y)PIN-xPMN-yPT] have recently been grown directly from melts by the modified Bridgman technique, which have drawn significant research attention because of their higher phase transition temperatures and excellent piezoelectric properties [7].…”
