“…PEG-block copolymers normally exhibit negligible cytotoxicity at relatively low concentrations. However, at high concentrations (especially up to 1 mg/mL), decreased cell viability has been observed in cells treated with various types of PEG-block copolymers. A recent study reported that an amphiphilic polymer of methoxy-PEG-block-triacontanol showed significant cytotoxicity on both MCF-7 and A549 cancer cell lines when concentrations reached 0.25 mg/mL . The Pal-pMPC polymer may have excellent cytotoxicity because it mimics the phospholipids in the biological membranes.…”

“…Both solutions were mixed and transferred into a high-pressure reactor, and heated at 130 °C for 6 h. The product was collected by centrifugation, and washed with ethanol and deionized water (DI). The keratin containing of numerous carboxyl groups was prepared according to the method previously reported by our group (Du et al, 2020). Then, 40 mg Cu-MOFs containing amino groups, 40 mg keratin containing carboxyl groups, 10 mg EDCHCl and 6 mg NHS were mixed in 16 mL DI and stirred at constant speed for 4 h. The reaction was then terminated and the solution was centrifuged at 10,000 rpm for 10 min, and the pellet was freeze-dried.…”

“…Compared with PEG and zwitterionic polymer, human hair keratin can effectively avoid the immune response and allergic reactions (Du et al, 2021a). On the other hand, it can easily disintegrate in the tumor microenvironment (TME) in response to low pH, and high levels of glutathione (GSH) and trypsin, which is conducive to release of the drug cargo in the tumor tissues (Du et al, 2020). Wang et al fabricated a DDS consisting of sulfhydryl-linked keratin, which was highly stable in a simulated blood environment .…”

“…Hair is mainly composed of keratin and melanin. Keratin is fundamental for some natural biomimetic materials, for it has wide applications in bone regeneration and hemostasis [ 14 , 15 ]. Melanin also has good photothermal effects and has been reported to treat tumors and infections with considerable curative effect [ 16 , 17 ].…”
