“…Fibrinogen converted to insoluble fibrin by activated thrombin significantly affects blood clotting, fibrinolysis, inflammatory response, wound healing and neoplasia [18]. Pretherapeutic plasma fibrinogen levels have been associated with the clinical outcome of patients with various cancers, including urothelial, colorectal, ovarian, and lung cancer [19,20,21,22,23,24,25]. …”

“…Son et al [21] discussed the association between systemic inflammation and cancer progression. It is possible that the high plasma fibrinogen level is secondary to the increased systemic inflammatory response caused by tumor progression.…”

“…Activated thrombin transforms fibrinogen to fibrin in the coagulation cascade; therefore, fibrinogen is important in the regulation of clot formation, wound healing, and the inflammatory response (6). Furthermore, previous studies have demonstrated that elevated fibrinogen activity enhances tumor aggressiveness in several malignancies, including esophageal, stomach and colorectal carcinomas (7)(8)(9). Consequently, hyperfibrinogenemia is associated with tumor progression and a poor prognosis for patients with malignant disease (7)(8)(9).…”

“…Of these, especially fibrinrelated products are frequently associated with advanced disease, prognosis and cancerrelated venous thromboembolism (6,(15)(16)(17). Also, it is shown that these factors show dynamic changes during anti-tumor treatment (8,18).…”
