Preoperative CT Diagnosis of Primary Fallopian Tube Carcinoma in a Patient with a History of Total Abdominal Hysterectomy

Abstract: Fallopian tube carcinoma is an unusual gynecologic malignancy that is rarely diagnosed preoperatively. We report a case of fallopian tube carcinoma occurring in a patient who had undergone a hysterectomy many years previously, in whom findings on computed tomography and ultrasound were highly suggestive of the diagnosis.

“…Most patients were thought to have primary ovarian disease identified by radiologic imaging: ultrasound confirmed an adnexal mass in nine patients, yielding the highest sensitivity of the diagnostic tests performed. Few articles in the medical literature report the radiologic findings in PFTC (29) . Kawakami et al (30) described results from computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging in ten cases of fallopian tube cancer and found an association only with hydrosalpinges.…”

“…The solid part is lightly-to-moderately enhanced, and the cystic part is not enhanced on the post contrast MRI. [ 16 18 ] Kawakami et al [ 6 ] think that the signals of MMMTs of fallopian tube are more inhomogeneous than that of the fallopian tube carcinoma, which is helpful for differential diagnosis.…”
