Preliminary screening of Waltheria indica (L.) plant for its anti-inflammatory activity

Abstract: A b s t r a c tThe investigation on anti reported to find out the pharmacological basis for its ethnomedical use. The anti activity of the pet ether (PEW) and methanol (MEW) extracts of the leaves of L. (Malvaceae)were evaluated by using in vivo (Carrageenan edema, cotton pellet granuloma test) models. It was observed that, all the extracts showed significant activity in the in with control and standard drugs. Of the two most significant activity well in comparison to the standard drug. suggests, potential of … Show more

“…Pet ether, methanol leaf extracts of the W. indica, and aqueous extract of stems with leaves also showed dose-related inhibition of acute and chronic inflammation in Carrageenan induced edema. The effect may be due to inhibition of histamine, serotonin, bradykinin, prostaglandin, and cyclooxygenase (COX) products [9,70,71]. Significant reduction in the pellet weight of cotton pellet granuloma test models was also observed after treatment with methanolic leaf extracts [71].…”

“…Extracts from leaves generated with hydrophobic solvents such as petrol ether or methanol, but also extracts from leafy stems generated with hydrophilic solvents such as water, showed dose-related inhibition of acute and chronic inflammation in carrageenan-induced edema. The effect is presumed to involve the inhibition of histamine, serotonin, bradykinin, prostaglandin and cyclooxygenase (COX) products [ 29 , 30 , 31 ].…”
