Preliminary Phytochemical Screenig and High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography[hptlc] Detection of Phenolic Acids in Lanata Camara Leaves Cultivated in Iraq

Abstract: Objective: the objective of this work was to investigate the phytochemical groups and to detect phenolic acids in L. camara leaves using highperformance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC). Methods: Leaves of L. camara were macerated thrice a week in petroleum ether, then in ethanol. Powdered leaves and ethanolic extract were subjected to phytochemical investigation. Acidic hydrolysis were performed on the extract, and then fractionated by petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and n-butanol. The chloroform… Show more

“…In this study, samples of Caladium bicolor leaf were extracted using methanol and investigated for the presence of secondary metabolites and its ability to inhibit the growth of selected clinical isolates. Phytochemical screening as earlier reported are useful in the recognition of bioactive compounds which are precursors to drug or medicine discovery and development [41]. As shown, plant extract contained the phytochemical constituents such as carbohydrate, tannins, alkaloids, saponins, lignin, mucilage, cellulose.…”

“…Gallic acid and ellagic acid has been reported from many plant species viz. Nymphaea stellata Willd (Rakesh et al, 2009), Lantana camara (Jaafar et al, 2018), and Woodfordia fruticosa (Grover et al, 2014). The leaf galls of oak ((Quercus leucotrichophora) have been reported as an intense source of gallic acid (Patni et al, 2012) .…”
