ABSTRACT:Fibrin glue has been researched as an alternative method for tissue synthesis and is known for its capability to promote hemostasis at the application site, good approximation of wound edges and fast healing. The current study consisted in the application of fibrin glue derived from snake venom as treatment for experimental corneal ulcers. Twenty-one dogs had their corneas experimentally prepared through lamellar keratectomy (of standardized diameter and depth). Animals were divided into seven groups of three animals each. Six experimental groups were periodically evaluated and collection was carried out on the 1 st , 3 rd , 7 th , 15 th , 30 th and 60 th post-operative days, whereas one control group was evaluated throughout the experiment. Analyses consisted in the clinical evolution and in the histopathological study of all operated on eyes. Results indicated that fibrin glue was efficient in repairing keratectomy wounds in dogs and contributed to an earlier healing phenomenon, avoiding edema formation and keeping corneal clearness. The use of fibrin glue derived from snake venom showed to be easy to apply, feasible with animal models and of low cost, avoiding the lesion progress and allowing fast and appropriate corneal healing.

De nombreux procédés innovants ont vu le jour ces dernières années dans le domaine des sutures et des ligatures chirurgicales, permettant aux chirurgiens de réaliser ces gestes de façon plus effi cace, plus sûre et plus confortable.Par extension, on parle de suture ou de ligature pour désigner le fi l chirurgical qui va servir à réaliser ces deux procédures. Pourtant, nous devons constater que de plus en plus de sutures et de ligatures ne se font plus désormais avec des fi ls. Aussi, en préambule, nous précisons que :-nous élargirons notre propos sur les sutures à l'ensemble des nouveaux moyens de fi xation des tissus mous (entre eux, à l'os ou à des implants mous), car certains ne sont pas des sutures à proprement parler (ex. : colle, ancre…) ; -pour les ligatures, nous ne considérerons que celles des vaisseaux sanguins isolés, ce qui exclut celles des autres vaisseaux (lymphatiques) et des conduits (ex. : trompes ovariennes), sans intérêt particulier ; ceci nous permettra ainsi d'évoquer de façon plus générale les nouveaux moyens d'hémostase, qui ne sont pas non plus pour la plupart des ligatures proprement dites (ex. : ligafusion, ligatures ultrasoniques, clips, etc.), mais les remplacent souvent avantageusement.Par ailleurs, nous considérerons comme « nouveautés » les procédés apparus depuis approximativement l'année 2000.Il est bien sûr impossible d'être exhaustif sur toutes ces nouveautés, qui plus est toutes spécialités chirurgicales confondues, aussi nous nous contenterons de ne signaler que celles qui nous paraissent les plus notables, avant d'évoquer les perspectives possibles.

Abstract: The mean leakage pressures were comparable for the 2 groups. Either method of closure should be able to withstand any postoperative increases in intraocular pressure. Dermabond adhesive may be considered as an alternative to conventional sutures in corneal wound closure.
