Preliminary analysis of the forest health state based on multispectral images acquired by Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

Abstract: The main purpose of this publication is to present the current progress of the work associated with the use of a lightweight unmanned platforms for various environmental studies. Current development in information technology, electronics and sensors miniaturisation allows mounting multispectral cameras and scanners on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that could only be used on board aircraft and satellites. Remote Sensing Division in the Institute of Aviation carries out innovative researches using multisensory p… Show more

“…The forest properties were analyzed in 15 different habitats, which were selected on the basis of Landsat imagery, using Forest Data Bank (FDB) maps showing forest divisions according to dominant species as a reference. The regions of interest included Q. robur specimens selected for the HESOFF project: DBB 126, DBB 96, DBB 130c, and DBB 130a ( Figure 1) [63]. The other regions were selected to cover the ortho photomaps to a maximum extent and were derived from photogrammetric products generated in the project [64].…”

“…HESOFF project assumed the regular implementation of photographic missions using, among others, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and the QUERCUS.6 multi-spectral camera [8]. Acquired images were used to assess the condition of oak stands [9,10]. Aerial and satellite images, in turn are the basis for the analysis of the natural environment, and available raster images enable, among others, classification of land cover, water quality study, biomass analysis including quality of stands and development phase of crops [11].…”

“…Over the next few years, the Space Technology Center was established, which in 2017 employs 80 employees implementing projects under four plants. The Department of Remote Sensing is involved in works that include both image acquisition and operational processing [1,2,3,5]. Photographs are made with the use of commercial equipment and the Multispectral System (6-ranges) developed for the needs of the HESOFF project.…”
