Eight original articles were excluded because five studies investigated women who underwent surgical interventions to treat ovarian endometrioma (Benaglia et al, 2012;Donnez et al, 2001;Mao et al, 2009;Nakahara et al, 1998;Suzuki et al, 2005), one had a control group of ovarian cysts (Kumbak et al, 2008), one had a control group with endometriosis but without ovarian endometrioma (Isaacs et al, 1997), and in one study, no extractable data were available (Benaglia et al, 2011). Therefore, the total number of studies included in the meta-analysis was nine.…”

“…From those, 4429 were excluded after reading titles and abstracts. A total of 176 records were completely assessed for eligibility, of which 84 studies were excluded with reasons: 70 studies did not compare endometriosis vs control or Stage III/IV vs Stage I/II endometriosis undergoing ART; eight studies did not report any of the evaluated outcomes; five studies included participants reported in newer or larger studies; and one study included only women who achieved pregnancy. We included 92 studies in this review, of which 78 studies were included in the quantitative meta‐analysis: 21 for both comparisons; 49 only for the comparison ‘endometriosis vs control’; and eight only for the comparison ‘Stage III/IV vs Stage I/II endometriosis’.…”
