Predictors of Non-Spontaneous Vaginal Delivery Among Mothers Who Gave Birth in Wachemo University Specialized Hospital, Hossana, Ethiopia, 2021

Abstract: Introduction Non-spontaneous vaginal delivery, such as cesarean delivery and operative vaginal deliveries, provides births other than regular vaginal pregnancy. In taking effective steps to minimize the caesarean section rate and the issues associated with it, it would be useful to examine the determinants of instrumental deliveries and their key indications. Therefore, this study aimed to determine magnitude and related factors of non-spontaneous vaginal delivery. Methods … Show more

“…The study also elucidated that those women who received optimal ANC care had a high probability of giving birth through operative vaginal delivery (OVD) as compared to similar women who attend less than 4 ANC visits. The finding was coherent with a study conducted in a different part of Ethiopia (Jimma and Hossana) ( 108 , 109 ). The plausible explanation could be the fact that OVD is one of the packages in basic emergency obstetric care provided in health facilities, which is designed to shorten second-stage labour through the assistance of forceps and vacuums ( 110 ).…”

“…With the continuous advancements in technology, caesarean section has become the preferred method of delivery for women who are unable to have a natural birth 34 . However, caesarean section is an unnatural method of delivery that requires an open abdomen and anaesthesia, and is prone to serious complications, including urinary retention, incision infection, abdominal distension and post‐partum haemorrhage, delaying the recovery of the body's functions and worsening prognosis 5,35,36 . Several factors can contribute to high requirements for clinical nursing work, and clinics need to strengthen the nursing care of caesarean section mothers to provide effective nursing interventions.…”

Although conventional nursing provides basic nursing measures, it fails to meet the humanistic care needs of mothers and cannot alleviate adverse emotions; therefore, the quality of postnatal care cannot be effectively improved.…”
