Prediction of the Corrosion Current Density in Reinforced Concrete Using a Self-Organizing Feature Map

Abstract: A disadvantage of using linear polarization resistance (LPR) in the measurement of corrosion current density is the need to partially destroy a concrete cover. In this article, a new technique of predicting the corrosion current density in reinforced concrete using a self-organizing feature map (SOFM) is presented. For this purpose, air temperature, and also the parameters determined by the resistivity four-probe method and galvanostatic resistivity measurements, were employed as input variables. The corrosion… Show more

“…One of the few devices available on the market for the simultaneous measurement of three electrical quantities stationary potential of reinforcement (E st ), concrete cover resistivity (Θ), and the corrosion current density (i cor ) is the GP-5000 GalvaPulse TM set (Figure 2a) [30][31][32][33]. The advantage of using the GalvaPulse TM device (compared to devices used in half-cell potential measurements) is the relatively short measurement time, which is usually no more than a few seconds at one point.…”

“…The corrosion process of steel bars embedded in porous concrete is presented in Figure 1 . Surface chloride concentrations affect the corrosion of steel and the performance of entire buildings and have a devastating effect in civil engineering [ 6 , 7 , 8 ]. The durability of a structure is an important parameter in RC buildings for maintaining an adequate service life of concrete structures [ 9 ].…”
