Prediction of Comfort for Dairy Cows, Depending on the State of the Environment and the Type of Barn

Abstract: Material and resource conservation are important when choosing the optimal technology for keeping dairy cattle. The so-called "Canadian technologies" of frame construction that are widely used in the world are only relatively recently used in national animal husbandry. The question of ensuring the comfort of animals in such rooms remains controversial, since the climate in them is as close as possible to environmental conditions. The purpose of the study was to study the temperature and humidity regime of unin… Show more

“…The animals have free access to water (group drinkers for animals) and feed (table for feeding). The climate features in the barn we described previously [17] are similar to the state of the environment. Large-diameter fans work indoors around the clock during the warm period.…”

“…where THI is temperature-humidity index [19], THI CHT is temperature-humidity index in the hangar-type cowshed, T is ambient air temperature ( • C), and RH is relative humidity (%). THI CHT is an indicator we suggested previously [17], on the basis of repeated temperature and humidity measurements in an animal room throughout the year. This indicator was used because the animals in the study were kept in exactly a hangar-type barn.…”

“…Effective ventilation could reduce HS by increasing the rate at which heat is convectively transferred from the animal to the surrounding air (Broucek et al, 2019). However, none of the systems can provide a sufficient amount of fresh air and the necessary cooling of each individual animal (Wang et al, 2018c), including due to the uneven distribution of air and significant differences in the THI value in the room (Schüller et al, 2016;Mylostyvyi et al, 2019a).…”
