Based on the three-dimensional design platform, this article conducted parametrization of blade leading and trailing edge positions, and analyzed the influence of different position parameters on mixed-flow pump hydraulic performance and internal flow with model test and numerical simulation. The results showed that the hydraulic efficiency of a mixed-flow pump increased slightly when the position parameter h of the blade leading edge on the hub increased, and increased significantly when the position parameter t of the blade leading and trailing edge positions on the shroud increased. However, with t increasing, the growth rate of decreased. Numerical simulation has shown that by selecting a proper value of t , the impeller energy conversion capacity can be effectively improved, and the distributions of static pressure and total energy can be more uniform in the flow passage. Meanwhile, with t increasing, blade angle on the blade trailing edge decreased. Correspondingly, the absolute velocity in the outlet zone decreased, and the hydraulic loss in the outlet zone also decreased, which is beneficial to improving hydraulic efficiency of the mixed-flow pump. Within the value range of 7-9 , with different combinations of position parameter t1 of the blade leading edge on the shroud and position parameter t2 of the blade trailing edge on the shroud, the mixed-flow pump hydraulic efficiency and blade wrap angle ' show a linear positive correlation, suggesting that an increase in ' could significantly improve impeller energy conversion capacity. Compared to t1 , t2 has a more significant influence on ' and . Thus, the value of t2 should be carefully attended to during design process.

Axial-flow pumps are widely used in every sector of China. After many years of operation, the aging of mechanical and electrical facilities poses threats to their steady and safe operation. Taking the technical innovation of an axial-flow pump station as an example, the study is focused on the pump selection and performance prediction. The pump similarity law and specific speed were applied to guide the pump selection based on the designed head and discharge. The performances of pump models were compared and it is suggested for the technical innovation that when the selected model pump is adopted, the impeller diameter is kept at 3100 mm and the rotational speed is reduced from 150r/min to 136.4r/min to improve its cavitation performance. A threedimensional pumping system model was established by using software Pro/E and CFD analyses were conducted to predict the hydraulic performance of the pumping system for the evaluation of technical innovation. It is shown through the comparison of computed results with model test results that the designed flow rate corresponding to the designed head can be fully satisfied with the selected pump and stronger pumping capacity can be prospected at the designed and mean lifting head. The pumping system model tests, in comparison between the original and the selected model pump, indicate that when the innovated pump station operates under characteristic heads, the pumping system efficiency can be raised by more than 3 percentages, and the cavitation allowance can be decreased by 0.90m; thus, better engineering and economic benefits can be prospected through the technical innovation.

As the second most widely used artificial lift method in petroleum production (and first in produced amount), electrical submersible pump (ESP) maintains or increases flow rate by converting kinetic energy to hydraulic pressure of hydrocarbon fluids. To facilitate its optimal working conditions, an ESP has to be operated within a narrow application window. Issues like gas involvement, changing production rate and high oil viscosity, greatly impede ESP boosting pressure. Previous experimental studies showed that the presence of gas would cause ESP hydraulic head degradation. The flow behaviors inside ESPs under gassy conditions, such as pressure surging and gas pockets, further deteriorate ESP pressure boosting ability. Therefore, it is important to know what parameters govern the gas-liquid flow structure inside a rotating ESP and how it can be modeled. This paper presents a comprehensive review on the key factors that affect ESP performance under gassy flow conditions. Furthermore, the empirical and mechanistic models for predicting ESP pressure increment are discussed. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD)-based modeling approach for studying the multiphase flow in a rotating ESP is explained as well. The closure relationships that are critical to both mechanistic and numerical models are reviewed, which are helpful for further development of more accurate models for predicting ESP gas-liquid flow behaviors.
