As for estimating the cost and planning the process of the rock sawing plants, it is significant to predict the production rate of ornamental stones sawing. To promote the efficiency in planning these rock sawing projects, scholars have been trying to find a high-accuracy method of production rate estimation. Moreover, targeting at the 28 granite and carbonates stone in the nature, this study examined the connection between two various brittleness indexes in statistics, including the ratio of compressive strength to tensile strength (B1) and places below the line of compressive strength and the line of tensile strength (B2) in rocks and production rate had been studied. Through the results of cross plots analysis, it was indicated that there existed a strong connection between production rate and the brittleness B1 and B2. Finally, in this thesis, through adding B1 factor, it has improved the estimation model for production rate which Mikaeil et al. (2013) have established. What’s more, by virtue of brittleness about B1 and B2, this production rate estimation model has been established successfully for natural stone sawing. Actually, the way of estimating the production rate of 28 rock samples is to utilize the two kinds of models described before. Through the result, it is showed that the production rate estimated by the improved model corresponds to the value of production rate of rock testing. Meanwhile, the precision has been greatly improved with comparison to the model of estimating the production rate designed by Mikaeil et al. (2013). Thus, on the basis of the new model, a dependable prediction for ornamental stones production is put forward in this paper. And it is required to do a further study involving different rock types since limited rock types were used in this study.

Abstract:The present study investigates four materials, namely quartz, marble, quartzite and metasandstone and aims to establish correlations, with the use of simple and multiple regression analysis, between their properties and breakage rate parameters. The material properties considered in this study derived from the application of destructive and non-destructive tests and include P-wave velocity (V p ), Schmidt rebound value (R L ), uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) and tangent modulus of elasticity (E t ), while the breakage rate parameters determined from batch grinding tests, include breakage rate S i , maximum breakage rate S m , α T and α, and optimum particle size x m . The results indicate that the properties of all materials examined show very good correlation and can be used to predict S i or α T . Furthermore, parameter α is well correlated with V p , R L and E t using inverse exponential functions, while S m is strongly correlated with R L and UCS. Overall, it is deduced that multiple regression analysis involving two independent variables is a reliable approach and can be used to identify correlations between properties and breakage rate parameters for quartz, quartzite and metasandstone, which are silica rich materials. The only exception shown is the determination of x m for marble.

Determination of the wear performance of diamond saw blades using inductively coupled plasma

Saw blades are one of the most used cutting tools. They compose the expensive parts of a cutting machine. Therefore, saw-blade wear is an important parameter governing the economy of the cutting process. Significant savings could be made when it is controlled effectively. In this study, a new methodology is employed for the determination of the saw-blade wear in the cutting of two types of marble. Wear of segments is determined by high-precision inductively coupled plasma method. Two types of marbles were used to investigate the wear performance of diamond-impregnated segments of circular saw-blade matrix. Taguchi mixed design L16 (4 3 2 1) is used as an experimental design and the results are evaluated statistically with Minitab. The results reveal that the specific wear rate (SWR) of Beige marble increases with the increase of the peripheral speed, traverse speed, depth of cut and down-cut mode operation. Additionally, it is demonstrated that the traverse speed and peripheral speed are the dominant cutting parameters affecting the SWR. It is also seen that similar trends are observed for Onyx marble (excluding peripheral speed). Finally, it is concluded that the proposed models can be effectively used for the estimation of the SWR.
