Predicting Perceptual Quality in Internet Television Based on Unsupervised Learning

Abstract: Quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE) are two major concepts for the quality evaluation of video services. QoS analyzes the technical performance of a network transmission chain (e.g., utilization or packet loss rate). On the other hand, subjective evaluation (QoE) relies on the observer’s opinion, so it cannot provide output in a form of score immediately (extensive time requirements). Although several well-known methods for objective evaluation exist (trying to adopt psychological principl… Show more

“…A brand-new platform for testing of new technologies (CPIT TL3) is currently being finalized in Technical University of Ostrava. The whole building will be split into blocks, covering various fields of research, spanning from smart factory or home care to automotive [32,33]. Laboratory dedicated for development of VLC technologies and their integration into everyday life will be also part of CPIT TL3.…”

“…PCA algorithm reduces the set of features/variables/attributes in a way that analyses the potential correlation between them. As a result of this method, a set of variables called principal components is provided, where none of these variables are cross‐correlated (Jaroslav et al, 2020). PFA method computes the correlation matrix showing the correlation coefficients between two features/variables/attributes.…”

“…An unsupervised learning approach has been studied to assess the QoE in IPTV services along with self-organizing maps. That approach included a full-reference model, visual distortion, and packet loss considerations and was suitable for assessing the video quality in broadcasting TV systems [11]. Another study that investigated unsupervised learning for QoE measurement presented the real-time algorithm deployed on the server side and the offline no-reference assessment on the customer side.…”
