“…In many self-pollinating crops, seed setting followed by in vitro flowering has been previously reported (Asawaphan et al 2005;Bodhipadma and Leung 2003;Franklin et al 2000;Ignacimuthu et al 1997;Nadgauda et al 1990;Rao et al 2005;Saritha and Naidu 2007;Zhang 2007). Correspondingly, in the present study also mature lettuce seeds have developed in vitro ( Figure 1F).…”

“…Nevertheless, the type and concentration of PGRs critically affected the induction of in vitro flowering in many other plant species (Franklin et al 2000;Galoch et al 2002;Lin et al 2004;Taylor et al 2005;Vu et al 2006;Wang et al 2001). As the pattern of inflorescence development is differentially regulated by PGRs (Nadgauda et al 1990), which may result in the malformation of flower (Vu et al 2006), in vitro flowering in the absence of PGR is advantageous in breeding and to study the hormonal regulation of flowering and floral organ development.…”

“…The effect of coconut water on bamboo shoot multiplication has been reported by different authors. Nadgauda et al (1990) and Rajapakse, (1992) induced shoot proliferation in the medium supplemented with coconut water in seedling derived culture of B. bambos and D. brandisii and in D. giganteus respectively, for which in vitro flower were also induced. Saxena and Bhojwani, (1993) reported to use 10% coconut milk (CM) as additive for better shoot proliferation in D. giganteus.…”

“…In vitro bamboo flowering was reported in Bambusa arundinacea, Dendrocalamus brandisii, and D. strictus as well as other species but in most of these reports the juvenile shoots that precociously flowered were derived from seedlings (Nadgauda et al, 1990;Ramanayake et al, 2001;Lin et al, 2003). However, we observed in vitro bamboo flowering that occurred in bamboo plants developed from bamboo tissue culture initiated in 1991 and thereafter subcultured continuously on culture medium.…”
