Precision double cropping synergistically improves wheat and maize yields as well as resource efficiency

Abstract: Climate variability has resulted in mismatches between recommended and optimum seeding rates, sowing and harvest dates, fertilizer application, and irrigation levels in North China Plain double cropped systems. The objective of this study was to compare traditional local double-crop practices (LP) with high-yield double-cropped treatments (HY) and precision double-cropped managements (PM). The LP treatment follows local practices, whereas HY optimizes yield regardless of cost, and PM optimizes economic returns… Show more

“…The integrated management strategy is defined as a comprehensive management framework including appropriate variety, sowing date, seeding rate, and fertilization and irrigation management ( Chen et al., 2011 ; Chen et al., 2014 ; Cui et al., 2018 ). The better performance in terms of grain yield and resource efficiency has been achieved ( Xu H. C. et al., 2018 ; Cheng et al., 2020 ). In an earlier study, we have elucidated the differences in wheat grain yield formation and N use under four integrated management treatments ( Xu H. C. et al., 2018 ).…”
