Precarity: Local Disorders or New Global Order?

Abstract: The paper is devoted to the research of the nature of precarity. The authors explore the dual substance of precarity as both global and local phenomena. There are four major premises in the formation of precarity at the global and local levels: the divisions of labor markets deepening inequalities and asymmetries; the Fourth Industrial Revolution providing a demand for labor with machines replacing the living workforce; the сhanging nature of labor which dissolves the boundaries between alienated labor and ind… Show more

“…Almost 64 per cent of the papers discuss this issue (Figure 14). Bobkov and Kvachev (2017) criticize the future changes as a manifestation of the new global order produced by the multitude of local disorders. On the other hand, Trompisch (2017) argues that the use of Industry 4.0 technologies in enterprises will not lead to full automation, suggesting a future scenario of cooperation.…”

“…On the other hand, this process will lead to the loss of jobs and replacement of labor by machinery. "Where there were many factory workers in the previous era, there will be few highly-qualified engineers and programmers in the future" (Bobkov and Kvachev, 2017). Also, digitization can lead to new waves of job shifts in emerging countries with lower labor costs and the growth of precarious work, which is explained as a consequence of the division of labor markets and the changing nature of labor (Kergroach, 2017;Rajnai and Kocsis, 2017;Bobkov and Kvachev, 2017).…”

“…The effects of these economic, political and cultural changes are the basis for the increased uncertainty that characterises many areas of contemporary life, especially for young people. This generalised uncertainty shows little sign of reversing and represents a new kind of normality in the liberal democracies of the OECD (Neilson & Rossiter, 2008;Kalleberg, 2009;Lorey, 2015;Castel, 2016;Bobkov & Kvachev, 2017). Recent debates about these emerging global processes position precarity not only as a limit or a boundary, but also as a condition that allows the emergence of renewed and ambivalent subjectivations that overflow analytic categories such as class (Della Porta et al, 2015;Armano et al, 2017;Alberti et al, 2018).…”

“…This social structure is unstable. In this nature of instability, the dual nature of both local and global phenomena can be traced, which affects both levels (Bobkov & Kvachev, 2018). Based on this logic, when implementing civil and administrative rights the legal pluralism, which determines the ratio of modernist and traditional values, creates many contradictory but stable regulatory practices especially in the matters of marriage and family.…”
