Mesatua “storytelling” is a tradition that is usually done by parents or grandparents in Bali. Storytelling uses Balinese folklore, which is rich in moral value. It is an effort to preserve the language and culture and develop Balinese cultural values. This study aims to determine Balinese folklore’s transitivity and social context by applying a systemic functional analysis theory. The result of the analysis showed that transitivity elements consist of process, participant, and circumstances. The situational context consists of the field of discourse, tenor of discourse, and mode of discourse. The cultural context involves mesatua “storytelling” traditions, the level of Balinese language used in the text, and religious symbolic meaning.

This study describes the choice of humor style used to reduce the anxiety experienced by Balinese people during the Covid-19 pandemic and also explains the language variations as well as linguistic phenomena for constructing a humor. The relationship between humor style and linguistic features is expected to explain the specificity of the humor discourse structure of Covid-19 in Balinese language. The data of this qualitative study were obtained through note-taking and sorting out some short films which were displayed on YouTube from April to May 2020. Furthermore, there were 13 discourses used as data source, and some of the humor styles include affiliative, self-enhancing, aggressive and self-defeating. The humor functions as a foundation for information on topics arranged deductively and inductively. The variations in Balinese language used are variety of kepara (general) and kasar (low). Also, the dominating linguistic phenomenon includes code mixing and switching, as well as semantic inaccuracy regarding word similarity. This study can establish public-communication model in a friendly atmosphere to eliminate the impact of socio-psychological gap.

This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach to examine Conversational Implicatures found in "The Silence of the Lambs" Movie using Grice's Cooperative Principle theory (1975). The objective of the study is to identify the prevalent type of Conversational Implicature and characterize its pattern of usage. The results indicate that Generalized Conversational Implicature (GCI) accounts for 42.2% of the total implicatures, while Particularized Conversational Implicature (PCI) represents 57.8%. Notably, Particularized Conversational Implicature emerges as the dominant type. The patterns identified within Generalized Conversational Implicature (GCI) are (1) conveying additional messages without needing to explain in detail or explicitly,(2) responses that do not require additional explanation, and (3) brief and succinct responses. However, Particularized Conversational Implicature patterns generated are (1) based on the specific context of the situation, (2) based on specific knowledge of the case and the context of the conversation, (3) use of cryptic language and allusions, (4) manipulation of hearing sympathy or understanding by sharing personal desires,(5) the psychological dynamics between the characters,(6) use of indirect questions.
