This paper aims to contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on social workers and the social work profession in Romania. Research has shown that social work is a profession at high risk for developing the burnout syndrome, which has many detrimental effects on both social workers and the clients that they serve. Two conceptual models are used to frame the discussion: the theoretical framework of VUCA (volatility, uncer-tainty, complexity, and ambiguity) to discuss the challenges of the unprecedented context the COVID-19 pandemic has created for social workers; stress and burnout to explain the negative impact of this period of time. Based on convergent mixt methods, the study sample consisted of 83 social workers employed in statutory and private social services in Romania, from different fields of intervention. Results show that 25,3% of respondents suffer from a high level of burnout and 44.6% scored in a range that indicate a medium level of burnout. A group of 31.1% have managed to handle stress factors in a healthy manner. Main stressors found are especially personal (fear of contamination, personal and family) and work-related factors (workload, new legislative rules and decisions, inconsistency, instability, ambiguity of managerial decisions, or even their absence or non-assumption, lack of clarity of working procedures, limited managerial and supervisory support, limited financial resources), less than client related factors (lack of direct contact, risk of contami-nation in two ways, managing beneficiaries fears, difficulties related to technology and digital skills). Study results point to the importance of organizational support and developing a self-care plan that help protect against occupational stress and burnout. Recommendations are made putting forward the voice of fieldworkers and managers fostering initiatives and applications of sustainability-based measures and activities designed to deal with the challenges of the VUCA environment.

Purpose: This article compares outcomes of a family-based prevention program from its original in-person mode to an online mode in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Celebrating Families!™ is designed to improve parenting skills, family functioning, and family relationships to break the cycle of substance use problems. Method: This mixed-methods, quasi-experimental study compared outcomes of in-person and online treatment conditions and content analysis of open-ended responses to a satisfaction survey. Results: Both groups showed improvement in outcomes, with moderate effect sizes and high satisfaction. Average scores of the online groups were generally lower than the in-person scores. Qualitative data yielded participants’ accounts of improvements in parenting behaviors, family relationships, coping skills, and knowledge insights. Conclusions: Despite the contexts of COVID-19, findings provided evidence that such relational group interventions can be feasibly administered online and can effect changes required to break the cycle of substance use problems and adverse family experiences.

Pandemi Covis-19 menjadi tantangan tersendiri bagi pemerintah dalam menentukan arah kebijakan yang berkenaan dengan sistem kerja pegawai, dalam hal ini khususnya Aparatur Sipil Negara (ASN). Paradigma baru dibangun untuk menciptakan budaya kerja yang lebih fleksibel dan adaptif terhadap situasi krisis. Kebijakan Flexible Working Arrangement (FWA) melalui Work From Home (WFH) dan Flexy time menjadi alternatif kebijakan menyikapi hal tersebut. Penulisan ini menggunakan metode Systematic Review dengan Logika Boolean melalui logika "AND" sebagai dasar pencarian jurnal internasional dibeberapa database yang telah dipilih melalui serangkaian prosedur. Dalam pelaksanaanya FWA memiliki beberapa faktor yang mempengaruhi seperti gender, infrastruktur dan teknologi, kepemimpinan dan manajerial, kebijakan, serta jenis pekerjaan dan jabatan. Adapun hasilnya menunjukan bahwa penerapan FWA mengalami tren positif dengan antusias tinggi dibarengi dengan tingkat produktivitas tinggi melalui sistem kerja yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan. Selain itu, terlihat pula manfaat lain dibeberapa aspek yang berhubungan dengan efisiensi, gender, budaya, teknologi, dan transportasi. Namun perlu diperhatikan juga bahwa terdapat beberapa hambatan yang muncul dalam pelaksanaan FWA ini seperti hubungan antara kesiapan teknologi dari instansi dan pegawai, sulitnya pengukuran produktivitas, peran antara kewajiban kantor dan kegiatan rumah tangga, serta masalah psikologis bagi pegawai. Dan pada akhirnya, apabila FWA memang dilakukan dan diterapkan secara optimal akan mendapatkan hasil yang efektif.
