Practical Procedure for Position Tolerance Uncertainty Determination via Monte-Carlo Error Propagation

Abstract: Determination of realistic uncertainty values in coordinate metrology is a challenging task due to the complexity of the implementation of numerical algorithms involved. Monte-Carlo error propagation is used to estimate the uncertainty of a position tolerance using least-squares criterion. In this paper all the required steps are sequentially performed using a number real-world datasets. Since no reference data sets are available for position tolerance evaluation hence drawings and numerical values of such dat… Show more

“…In metrology, the measurement uncertainty is defined as a "parameter, associated with the result of a measurement, that characterizes the dispersion of the values that could reasonably be attributed to the measurand" [18]. Using equation (20), the compensation result of the pitch diameter is calculated by parameters including the alignment deviations.…”

“…The uncertainty scatter is a graphical representation of the uncertainty of each measurement, and additionally allows the uncertainty of the measurement to be estimated by directly measuring the dispersion of these points. A graphical representation of the uncertainty is helpful for properly representing the uncertainty interactions of nonlinear fusion from multiple stations [24].…”

“…Considering the large variation of density values calculated on different pieces of pellets produced under the same experimental conditions, measurement uncertainty was included in the density prediction. Measurement uncertainties were dealt with in some previous issues of Measurement Science Review, lately in [8] or [9]. Especially the former work contains some basic principles used in our paper, too.…”
