Fusion Estimation of Point Sets from Multiple Stations of Spherical Coordinate Instruments Utilizing Uncertainty Estimation Based on Monte Carlo

Abstract: Multiple instrument stations, based on spherical coordinate measurements, are often used in the measurement of large objects. A data fusion method is proposed to derive optimal estimations of the positions of the object features, measured by more than one device. First, each device has a dedicated coordinate system that is linked together through the measurement of common points. Second, the weighted mean coordinates are derived. The covariance matrix of the sensory, covering of the radial distance and the ang… Show more

“…Among a broad range of large scale measuring systems, such as optical scanner, laser radar, indoor GPS, and digital photogrammetry, laser tracking system (LTS) has become the backbone for accurate dimensional measurement in many industrial and scientific fields due to its high accuracy, large measuring range, high sampling rate, and automatic target tracking. It has been widely used in manufacturing measurement for dimension inspection, robot calibration, machine alignment, surface contour mapping, and reverse engineering [1][2][3][4][5][6][7].…”

“…Gear measuring center is a kind of efficient precision measuring instrument, but outliers easily cause sudden measurement environment changes in the measurement of tooth profiles, such as the effect of mechanical vibration on the measuring head and the impact of the sharp current on the data acquisition card [6][7][8]. The outliers lead to the abnormal data and decrease the measurement precision of tooth profiles, so the outliers must be removed as soon as they are detected [9][10][11].…”

“…Considering the large variation of density values calculated on different pieces of pellets produced under the same experimental conditions, measurement uncertainty was included in the density prediction. Measurement uncertainties were dealt with in some previous issues of Measurement Science Review, lately in [8] or [9]. Especially the former work contains some basic principles used in our paper, too.…”
