Power amplifier behavioral modeling based on Laguerre Polar‐Volterra series with independent truncations

Abstract: This article proposes an approach that modifies the Polar-Volterra series expanded by a set of Laguerre Orthonormal Basis Functions and the Polar-Volterra series using independent truncation techniques to significantly reduce the amount of parameters, where the resulting models reproduce the distortions of the nonlinearities of a radio frequency power amplifier (RF PA). An RF PA GaN HEMT class AB, stimulated by a wave centered at 900 MHz modulated by two 3GPP WCDMA envelope signals, each having a bandwidth of … Show more

“…Power transistors are essential components in the microwave circuit system [ 1 , 2 ]. Therefore, high-precision transistor models play significant roles in system design [ 3 , 4 , 5 ]. Conventional modeling approaches, such as equivalent circuit models and empirical formula models, require slow trial-and-error processes.…”

“…In particular, when the geometric parameters need to be adjusted repeatedly, the device design cycle is greatly extended. Efficient surrogate models are used in device design to address time consumption [ 2 , 3 ]. The traditional modeling method usually develops and improves the model through continuous testing and repeated correction, which is a slow trial-and-error process.…”

“…Simulations not only make it possible to find the appropriate circuit parameters faster but also save labor and production costs in the physical manufacturing process [ 3 ]. Therefore, highly accurate and efficient microwave device models play a very important role in circuit design simulation [ 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 ]. Improving device modeling accuracy and shortening device design cycle have become major fields of research in microwave devices [ 8 , 9 ].…”
