Povidone iodine loaded film-forming topical gel and evaluation of its chemical stability

Abstract: The main aim of this study was to develop Povidone Iodine loaded ilmforming gel for excellent wound healing property with various formulations, and corresponding application strati ication was prepared with Povidone Iodine, polyethylene glycol-400, polyethylene glycol-4000, aloe vera, and honey. Povidone Iodine is a broad spectrum antiseptic for topical application in the treatment and prevention of infection in wounds. Among the antiseptic and antimicrobial substances, Povidone-Iodine still occupies its posit… Show more

“…Finally, the appropriate volume of glycerol was mixed with the prepared NaAlg/PVPI solution and allowed to dissolve under continuous stirring for about 1 h at normal room temperature. Then each film was cast by taking 10 ml of the solution and finally dried for 24 h under a chemical hood to get final film [26][27][28].…”

“…The dressings we prepared (with PVA-HPMC, as with other combinations described in the literature) are characterized by enhanced properties, i.e., swelling or flexibility relative to pure PVA [ 40 , 41 ]. Povidone-iodine (PVP-I) was selected as the active drug in films, as it displays the broadest spectrum of antimicrobial effects against bacteria, yeasts, molds, other fungi, and certain viruses, and at the same time, microbes lack resistance to the compound [ 42 , 43 , 44 , 45 , 46 ]. Kaeviad et al developed dental floss impregnated with PVP-I as a drug antimicrobial delivery system against periodontopathogenic bacteria.…”
